Away

This weekend. This weekend! I went away. With no baby and no husband. I met my college girls, my beloved Argylian Goddesses*, at my dear friend Chelsea’s house. We drank wine. We went out to dinner. We talked. We played Just Dance on the Xbox 360. We ate and ate and ate. We saw Magic Mike. (That movie is terrible, but OH MY GOD is Channing Tatum good looking.) We talked some more. It was so much fun. I really don’t know why we don’t do that more often. I also got to have brunch with my mom and sister - just the three of us. We haven't done that in, I don't know, years. It feels like years, at least.

When I arrived home, Clare was napping.  When she woke up, Ben got her out of the crib and brought her to our room, where I was unpacking. When she saw me, her face broke into the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. Ben put her down and she ran straight for me, hands in the air. She wouldn’t let me put her down for at least an hour. It made me want to leave more often, just so I can experience that reaction again. I wish I could have bottled it up and saved it for a day in the future when I am feeling depressed or sad, because that would be the cure-all.

On a totally unrelated note, we had some delicious, locally grown sweet corn for dinner last night. Clare seemed to enjoy it.

*I think posterity needs to know where that nickname comes from. The building we lived in during college was called Argyle House. Chelsea and I wrote an advice column for the building’s newsletter, and we called ourselves the Argylian Goddesses. Our advice was brilliant, I am sure.

  1. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right!?
It sounds like you had a FABULOUS girls' weekend away with the goddesses. Those girls' only dinners, outings, and trips are so necessary as we get older!! P.S. Cute video of Clare and the sweet corn.
